Irvin’s Live Seafood House

I’VE MOVED TO HTTP://THELITTLEMOMENTSOFMYLIFE.BLOGSPOT.COM

this restaurant is really near my house! :D it took over ivins peranakan food – haha it’s so strange that IRVINS took over IVINS? i mean, it’s like just a difference of one alphabet. initially we thought it was still ivins, just that it was selling seafood, but then we realised it wasnt. and we were soooo sad that ivins was gone :( i have no idea whether we can find it anywhere else in singapore. aww man, our favourite place for peranakan food is gone </3. but but but!!! IRVINS SEAFOOD totally makes up for the fact that ivins is gone. the food is absolutely mind-blowing :O

when i first saw it on the website, i was really excited already! i think i decided what i wanted to eat even before we stepped into the restaurant haha. and sometimes when you have expectations, you might find that reality doesnt match it. but nope, that’s not the case at irvins xD it was a thoroughly satisfying meal :D

Salted Caramel

recently i’ve been trying out the new eateries that have popped up along upper thomson road and i’ve been kinda disappointed :( BUT!!!! salted caramel is one of those that didn’t (:  how wrong can ice cream get? thankfully, not much.

we ordered the three scoop cup of ice cream ($7) which i felt was pretty affordable huh! :D the lovely artisan ice cream was smooth and creamy, and each flavour stood out distinctly. the earl grey carried a fragrant whiff of the leaf-y tea that was oh-so-soothing. the chocolate stout had a robust flavour of the alcohol, yet wasn’t overwhelming. and the horlicks & tim tam ice cream was pure comfort food (: loved the chunks of tim tam in it! :D

the waffles here are also really good i heard! although i didn’t try it when i went. but they smelled awesome!

Crust

I’VE MOVED TO HTTP://THELITTLEMOMENTSOFMYLIFE.BLOGSPOT.COM

yayyyy! i finally tried crust! :D after many attempts of me suddenly being busy when i’m supposed to go there, i’ve finally finally successfully come here (: and i wanna come back again! and again! haha it must be the timing of the night that makes me start repeating myself, brain no longer working. super exhausted >.<

Peach Garden

hmm it’s kinda sad that i’m blogging about this restaurant at a time when i didn’t have such a pleasant experience here! >.< previously i’ve always found the dim sum here pretty satisfying, but i’m not sure whether it’s because of changes to the management/chef or just a one-off experience when my dining experience here wasn’t as nice.

by the way, i’ve you’ve read my previous dim sum posts (like mouth restaurant, red star and taste paradise), you’ve probably realised that i generally seem to eat the same stuff when i go to dim sum restaurants :P oops. yup true. hahaha. just that they are all my favourite foods! ESPECIALLY THE CHAR SIEW SOU. so i can’t not order them! i try to order slightly different stuff if possible though! to make it interesting haha.

Old School Delights

i’ve moved to HTTP://THELITTLEMOMENTSOFMYLIFE.BLOGSPOT.COM

it’s really about time that i started exploring all the foodie places around upper thomson. there are new outlets sprouting up around this place all the time! :D how eggciting xD yes, i shall convince my friends to visit this area more often hehe. old school delights is this really adorable little cafe that is super, well, old school! haha. there are blackboards all around, old school goodies like those icing biscuits (you know?) and even toy boxes with games like five stones! haha so cute (: and you order your food by writing it on a little whiteboard which they provide at each table! haha fun!!

Scoopz

*squeals!!!!* there are so many new ice-cream places popping up all over the place! i’m never going to finish trying them all! xP haha. scoopz just opened along upper thomson road not too long ago! (: i think it’s the second outlet, no idea where is the other one though!

i went there because i had a discount coupon! lol :P haha poor student must find a way to save moneyyyy (for shopping xD haha). it’s so hard to prioritize isnt it? haha. anyways, back to scoopz! they do handmade ice cream, as well as other stuff like waffles, etc! i only tried the ice cream though ($2.90 for one scoop). the good thing is it’s the same price for  the cone and the cup versions! i dunno why there always seems to be price discrimination for the two, so this is definitely something good! (: and for $2.90, the portion is really quite generous! look at the photo! (sorry a bit blur – i was getting too excited cos i had to quickly take the photo before the ice cream started dripping down the cone >.<). and the picture was taken after we had licked off quite a bit of the ice cream, so serving size is not bad right!

clockwise from from bottom left: chocolate, rum, lemon, green tea, and the one in the centre is apple cinnamon! (: one downside of this place is that the flavours available are quite limited. compared with the other ice-cream parlours with such fun flavours to chose from, this one definitely pales in comparison. the most interesting one would probably be the apple cinnamon? which mummy said was lacking in flavour. but the upside is that they do the original flavours well! (: I LOVED THE CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM!!!! <3 i haven’t eaten simple chocolate ice cream for the longest time. and it was GOOD. (: creamy and luscious. yummy! and the ice cream cone was really crunchy and thick! value for money? haha.

overall, an affordable and cosy place for ice-cream in the neighbourhood! :D

Rochor Beancurd House

Awfully Chocolate

I’VE MOVED TO HTTP://THELITTEMOMENTSOFMYLIFE.BLOGSPOT.COM! :D

Awfully Chocolate in the Sembawang Hills estate just underwent a revamp not to long ago. from a spartan store with a single counter selling just cakes, it has now been converted into a minimalistic cafe with an expanded menu! (:

the hei 黑 ice cream ($3.80 single scoop) is really delicious! i dont know how to describe it, but somehow the texture is slightly thicker and gooeier and the taste is simply BLISS! :D it contains a blend of Awfully Chocolate’s own chocolate and Belgian dark chocolate and it is just awesomeeeeeeeee!

we also tried the white chocolate butterscotch block ($6.50 for 100g) which is a combination of white chocolate and sweet-salty butterscotch with a dark chocolate swiss roll. it was kind of too sweet in my opinion :/

but overall, love this new concept! (: it’s the first of its kind!!! and i wanna eat chocolate cake soon! <3

La Petite Cuisine

I’VE MOVED TO HTTP://THELITTEMOMENTSOFMYLIFE.BLOGSPOT.COM! :D

French food tends to be associated with fine dining in Singapore, but i recently discovered a quaint little french restaurant along Upper Thomson where they serve unpretentious french food in a cosy setting. This is a branch of the original restaurant in Serene Centre, and i must say that it is a wonderful place for affordable french cuisine (:

Ivins

I’VE MOVED TO HTTP://THELITTEMOMENTSOFMYLIFE.BLOGSPOT.COM! :D

upper thomson really does have a lot of nice food places! :D HAHA to all those people who live in the east ;) i have so many friends living in the east, and they’re always talking about the nice food there. well, that’s true i suppose. but you know how lazy i am to travel, unless i’m out with my family and we have the car ;) so living at upper thomson has its perks! and let me emphasize, IT IS NOT ULU! :p haha.

so, you may ask, where can you find affordable and tasty peranakan food? (: My answer: Ivins! i know there is this popular peranakan restaurant called blue ginger, but it’s pretty expensive if im not wrong. i’d love to try it someday! but in the meantime, i’m content with Ivins xD

Springleaf Taiwan Porridge

Springleaf Taiwan Porridge has been around for years! ever since i’ve moved in to the place where i now live, i think this restaurant existed already, and it is one of the rare ones that has managed to sustain after all these years. good for it! (: probably has a pretty regular set of customers that come back time and again for some simple heart-warming comfort food. recently, it underwent a renovation and looks really chic now (: on weekdays when it is not so crowded, it is a pretty good place for a relaxing meal (:

Casuarina Curry

Living along Upper Thomson Road means that i have the luxury of chosing from a variety of prata joints. And the funny thing is, my family tends to go to a super random prata place that is much further down from where we live – somewhere along sembawang road instead, because mummy prefers the SOFT prata there. there are generally two types of prata – the soft floppy kind (which is apparently the type which my parents grew up with which is why mummy prefers it) and the crispy type. i love prata. so i don’t mind either type xD the one at Casuarina Curry is the crispy type, and it’s hilarious how everyone seems to ask me whether i eat prata for breakfast everyday since i live near Casuarina Curry -.- haha if i did, i’ll be 10kg heavier please! :/ btw i’ve been eating desserts for the past three days. NO MORE!!!! gosh. i feel so unhealthy tsk. no more.

Sushi Tei

There are so many japanese food chains in singapore, it’s difficult to decide which is best. in fact, i visit different food chains for different purposes, depending on my mood. i love ichiban sushi for its sushi and ichiban don. and i don’t really like sakae sushi much :p there is nothing special about it! but sushi tei does :D

Jonker’s Nyonya Deli

Tucked away in the nondescript shopping mall called Thomson Plaza is a jewel. Barely a year old, it was featured in the 8days magazine, and let me tell you, it’s GOOD. i’m so glad the food options in Thomson Plaza are getting better. after all, upper thomson is a fast becoming a foodie paradise! and i am so proud to be living in this bustling foodie haven xD i’ve yet to try out so many of the places!!
